26 things you should do before you turn 27.

Hello my pretties,

I thought it would be nice to point out 26 things I've done, that I hope you too have either done or are planning to do before your number 27 arrives.

*Important: This is not my wish list, bucket list or anything like that, this list is stuff that I have actually done before I turn 27 this next June.*

1) Know yourself. Our twenties come with a lot of challenges, especially because we grew up before we even knew adulthood would actually knock on our doors. By now, you should probably have or are looking for a job or you are probably a student. Being either an employee or a student is not easy, let alone being both. That is why, it is supremely important to KNOW YOURSELF in every aspect and every step of the way. Knowing yourself will allow you to know your style, your beliefs, your values, your limitations and, most importantly, you will be able to always stand by them, no matter what life brings along.

2) Choose a career. STUDY. My advice: choose a career in which you see yourself becoming a professional. Going to college is a super amazing experience in every aspect of life; academic, personally and socially. I assure you, you won't regret it later in life. I know I don't.

3) Find a person you just have to listen. We all have problems, but it is only when you sit down quietly to just listen to a person that you realize your problems may not be as big as everybody else's problems. Also, you'll see that, no matter how big other people's problems are, they always keep on going on and push through because life goes on with or without you.

4) Take your time to know God. And this is either you believe in God or not. If you believe, take your time to read the Bible, books, literature, or whatever it is will show you who is God and what role can He play in your life. Also, be sure to know that we will meet people that don't believe and that it is okay. If you don't believe in God, take your time to be sure why is it that you don't believe but also be prepared to have people around you that do believe so that you don't hurt anyone's feelings. That actually goes both ways.

5) Count your blessings. There is nothing else that will give you a sense of accomplishment that knowing, no matter what you believe, that life is a blessing itself. Give thanks for that. EVERYDAY.

6) Have your cake and eat it too. Give me a fork and a knife. Make sure you taste the food before you say: "ewwww...". Taste everything at least once. Try food from other parts of the world, Indian, French, Mexican, etc. Drink wine with your food. Eat cake when you need to eat cake. Then, go on a diet with your head up.

7) Break etiquette rules with your friends. Try to do this early in your 20's. Go to a store and prank people. Sit down with your friends in the middle of a store section just to watch peoplepass you by. Talk loud. Run around in circles. Hug random people. Say hi to everyone in traffic. Talk with your mouth full, at least once in your life. Get dirty and then find a pool to clean up. Eat with your hands. Do whatever it is you need to do to feel crazy at any given point. This will make you feel alive again.

8) Look for a kid between the ages of 5 and 10. Take up on a free day to spend quality time with this kid and do whatever it is this kid wants to do, no matter how crazy you think you look. This helps you both.

9) ENJOY YOUR SINGLENESS. And in this I am totally biased but take your time to be with you because you are the most important person in your life. Take your time to learn how to live by yourself, be free, love yourself while you're single. This is too important for when you find that perfect person for you.

10) Travel. Do whatever it takes to take yourself on a trip. I can recommend Paris, France *winkwink*, but you can actually go wherever you feel inclined to go. Travel in a group that share interests with you, but also try to be alone at some point of your trip. You can do it by yourself and you'll be surprised.

11) Have a themed birthday bash. Mistery parties, costume parties, 50's party, etc. Find a theme and have fun making people show up with costumes, parts to play or things like that... Celebrate your next birthday with a big bash!!! Come on, you deserve it and you know it!!!

12) Find a style that suits only you. Do you see yourself as a style trend-setter? I do see myself like that! I find this important because this, also, makes you, you! Your style will not suit me and viceversa and that, my friends, is one of the most beautiful things in life. Be authentic with yourself and with others. You can thank me later!

13) Grow a loving personality. Be kind. Be sweet. Be accesible. Be lovable. There is nothing more good in life than being a person people wants to be around or a person easy to love. Believe me, it will open tons of doors. It will feel nice.

14) Have your heart broken. I know, I know, this sounds just terrible but please read me out. When we are in our teen years, we never recognize how hurtful we can be with others. We are easy to judge, easy to have prejudices, easy to hurt people. Having our hearts broken, at some point, will make us realize that people are different, that we can never judge based on only what we see and that we ARE, like it or not, vulnerable to many situations around us. Please, allow yourself to have your heart broken. It's never easy but always necessary.

15) DO NOT get married. Please... Just don't... Take your time... We are young... There are SO MANY things to do out there, why would you want to tie yourself up to a house, a husband or wife, maybe kids? Don't get me wrong, I am not against marriage, I want to get married myself, just later in life... First, finish your career, establish yourself in your own home, travel around, do good things for others, volunteer in whatever it is you like, GROW UP... Then, get married.

16) Have a crazy haircut. Chop off half your hair. Cut your hair too short you wouldn't know what to do with it. Have your bangs cut. Find yourself a stylist that is willing to put up with your hair ideas. Have your hair blonde, red, blue and black. Have fun with it. It's permissible.

17) Recognize your real friends. Friends are blessings, indeed, but real friends are on another level. Real friends appear on your worst moments and you need to recognize that. Sometimes the people you least expect are the ones that appear for you in a terrible moment, pick you up and walk with you... These least expected people ARE your real friends. Acknowledge them!

18) Fall in love at first sight. Being able to say: "I fell in love the first time I saw him/her." is truly a heart warming thing. I just don't know why. And even if it's not meant to be, love at first sight lets you know that it can really happen and that it might happen again and next time might be forever.

19) Watch all seasons of a TV series. Preferably on Netflix. It is so exciting to know that when the episode ends you will have the next one lined up and started in ten seconds. Of course, there is a downside, when the series ends, you will feel sad. Don't worry. You can watch it again.

20) Take pictures of things you find breathtaking. A pretty boy, a pretty girl, a rose, an animal... Take pictures. Take pictures of good moments, don't let them go away. Pictures serve you as memories, they make great room and house decorations and, of course, they make great screensavers!

21) Enjoy your grandparents. And give them quality time. Grandparents will leave Earth before we know it and it is one of the hardest and painful things in life. While you have them, enjoy them, listen to them, cook for them, make them coffee, ask them about their life as kids, teens and young adults, etc. Go visit them whenever you can, call them everyday, sit around them, just look at them and tell them you love them. You won't regret it.

22) Visit old people you do not know. Talking to old people is amazing. It doesn't matter that they repeat and repeat and repeat their stories, what's important here is that they repeat the best moments of their lives and that makes me have my faith in humanity restored. Try it!

23) Do things with your own hands. Re-invent your own stuff. Take on a couple of D-I-Y's with clothes, accesories, your room, etc. This is actually so cool, I do it anytime I can. It makes you feel that you can actually do things by and for yourself.

24) Read. Have your own library. Read good books. Read books that will change your life. Ask your friends or family to recommend books or authors. Read whatever it is your interested in knowing more. Knowledge is power and reading is our way to knowledge. Build your own library with your favorite books. There are libraries that put books outside for people to take them FOR FREE. Take advantage of that.

25) Do good. This is a Mr. Feeny kind of advice, but it is a tresured advice to me. I, for one, love to sign up for charities, I've been doing it for a couple of years now. This is not about trying to change the world on your own, it's about putting your own grain of sand to make our world better one step at a time. If we all do this, I think we can make it. We just need to raise our voices.

26) Never give up. Never quit. Keep on pushing through. The sun will shine again, I promise. Problems come and go but life has a way to always turn them around. Problems and situations are never bigger than the picture of life. Value your life enough to know living is about moving forward through situations and walking to our goals. Life is for people that know, and are willing to, adapt to changes. That is all that matters.
